Silent Conversations - Lotje Meijer
In this exhibition, Meijer returns to her first love and great strength: drawing.
Meijer’s kookaburras, tawny frogmouths are drawn from life studies made over many years at her bushland studio. The birds and Meijer have reached a point of rare mutual trust, sharing comfortable proximity and silent conversation. Meijer’s wonderfully mesmerising owls are the product of countless drawing expeditions into a nearby wildlife sanctuary.
Meijer renders her subjects on an unexpected, larger-than-life scale, creating the effect of greater intimacy between bird and viewer. This new exhibition is a collection of extraordinary, beautiful and dramatic bird drawings that avoids clichés and brings a unique perspective to their portrayal.
